Palos Verdes Surfing Club Car-Club Plaque

$400.00

SMH has two early 1940s Palos Verdes Surfing Club car-club plaques available for sale. A third plaque will remain in our collection for future exhibitions. These plaques were acquired from an estate sale in Southern California.

To ensure they are placed with individual collectors, we will sell only one plaque per collector. Shipping costs (from Hawaiʻi) will be calculated after we receive your inquiry, so please let us know where the plaque would be shipped if your purchase is approved. Local pickup in Honolulu is also available.

A must-have for collectors of early 20th-century surf memorabilia, this original Palos Verdes Surfing Club car-club plaque represents a rare piece of California surfing history. The Palos Verdes Surfing Club was established in 1935, and by the 1940s and 1950s, members proudly displayed these distinctive plaques on their surf wagons and automobiles as symbols of their affiliation with one of Southern California’s pioneering surf clubs. Surviving examples are exceptionally scarce, making them highly sought-after additions to any serious surfing collection.

Opportunities to acquire an authentic Palos Verdes Surfing Club plaque are few and far between. The last publicly offered example appeared in Scott Bass’s California Gold Surf Auction in 2019, where it carried a pre-auction estimate of $800–$1,000 before selling for $550. Whether displayed alongside vintage surfboards, photographs, or other period artifacts, this plaque stands as a tangible reminder of surfing’s formative years and the close-knit communities that helped shape the sport’s enduring culture.
